EXHAUSTION

But a quick post before I fall asleep.

Ashley told me if you add blood to everything it's way better. This next one wouldn't have been the same without her inspiration:

And I get to see Baroness tomorrow! YEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee

EEEEEEEEEE

That's what it says!

Anyway, I had to run a ton of errands today. Buy stuff for the apartment, for art classes, etc. It was uncomfortable. There's a local art store and they offer a discount to students. I checked online and it said they opened at 10 AM. So I planned the rest of my errands around that and took care of the billion other things I had to do. I got to the store at 9:56, and they were closed. Fine.
But I looked at the door and saw that it said "10ish". Someone had modified it sometime in the past. "Alright," I think, "I'll wait a few minutes."

At 10:20, I left because I was tired of standing there.
I will never go back.

Anyway, today is a quick post because I have to go to work soon and I spent the morning running errands.

First day of school.

We're talking about tonal theory in one of my art classes.
I painted some tones on this.

None make much sense.
This is why we go to school.

BONUS: Outside.

I was drawing this above while I was finishing up Colors by Between the Buried and Me. I started it while I was running today. It's an awesome CD. Seriously, a large change from Alaska but in an incredibly positive direction. Then , as those last notes were fading away in White Walls I drew the apartment to the left of this. It looked like this:

Goodnight, everybody.

Gonna leave this as is right now.

Done tinkering with this for now. I need to eat something.

I finished Arthur C Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey today. I found it frightening, especially the parts with HAL in the Discovery. All alone with billions of miles of empty space separating you from other human beings...
Science Fiction is awesome.

First day of school is tomorrow... I'm excited, and I hope to learn things that will force me to elevate my craft above the plateau I seem to find myself stymied in.

BONUS: I'm too tired.

Been foolin around on this for about an hour and a half now. It's just not working. I'm going to bed.

Some stuff from my completed sketchbook

Just playin around with light sources on this one.

When I was drawing that arm chainsaw guy I was like, "It's Armblessed from Battle Angel Alita!". But seriously, Armblessed has way more chainsaws in his body.
These are some random doodles, with what looks like a newd pikachu mutant.

This guy is speaking with a kindergartner's voice. I tried to write like a child.

Just a few things...

I just got all settled into my new place. I finished my sketchbook early this week, but haven't been able to get it scanned because I was busy. I'll upload some more tomorrow, but I'm exhausted.

I might be able to finish this...

I feel like I'm close to figuring it out... I just need to un-muddy everything and find out how to fix the edges.

I'm moving soon...

Things are busy. These were the last items scanned before I boxed up my scanner.
School starts next week.
And I missed the waitlist for the class I've been waiting for since before Summer started. What happened was this:
I'd been checking my school e-mail address all the time watching for the notice that it was my turn. about a week and a half ago I saw that I was 7th in line. Since I was gonna get in real soon I checked every day, sometimes multiple times a day. Then, on Tuesday, I got to work early so I checked my e-mail before clocking in. I saw the typical spam from my school (HERES THE CALENDER NOBODY LOOKS AT, HERES PARKING INFO NOBODY LOOKS AT, NOBODY LOOKS AT THIS BLAH BLAH BLAH) but decided to scroll down to see if anything was buried under their spam. Lo and behold, I see a notification that I have 24 hours to accept the class before it's dropped. I missed the deadline by about 2 hours. BECAUSE IT WAS BURIED UNDER THEIR SPAM. So I put myself back on the waitlist. I should probably go check on that, now that I'm thinking about it

BONUS: It kept bugging me.

I wanted to do other things, but I couldn't let this sit...

Here's what I showed you last:

Here's what I tweaked:

Rehd Dreggyn

Quick sketch this marnin'

I'm having issues with that chin now that I think about it...  Maybe I'll fix it?

BONUS: ALL DIGITAL

This was done entirely digitally. No sketchbook, which is different from how things normally go around here.

Who will win!?

Hideous monster or fat old swordsman!?

And something creepy.

BONUS: Tower

I was trying to figure out if it should be darker at the top or the bottom. Then I added some lighting effects, but it looked to fancy for such a quick sketch.

BONUS: Maya revival

I haven't touched Maya since Fall 2012.
Today was the day I downloaded Maya again and tried to pull that info out of my skull.
It was a long time ago... And the image shows it!

It was a huge pain in the butt! As I was going stuff was coming back to me. I think the texture is 256x256, the object is far too complicated geometrically than it needs to be and I literally just blorped paint over an auto uv-mapped texture.
So it's ugly.
But even now, my brain is remembering things and realizing where I made things complicated and where I can improve. I did this without consulting any videos or tutorials. I think this isn't bad for over a year later and about an hour and a half.

(Edit at 7:23 P.M. So yeah, it was less than a year ago. That was slightly dramatic. But it's been awhile, okay?)

(Edit at 8:19 P.M. After an hour of painting a much higher quality texture I'm still frustrated... I appear to have become stuck at the same place I do when regularly painting something. It looked much better than the image posted here but it was still ugly. Hmm. I'm going to continue practicing my mesh-building and uv-mapping skills, but painting is still scary )

Went to the zoo yesterday.

I've recovered from my sister's wedding.
I was at the zoo yesterday with the UVU Illustration Club. I have some stuff that's cool, and some stuff that's not cool.
I'm basically most proud of this muscular giraffe torso:

I may also need a better monitor in the near future... Looking at these I can see where I erased an issue on the giraffe.

My sister is getting married tomorrow. I have no time to do anything. But yeah, don't be angry if I don't get to posting tomorrow :(

Bus 8/6/13

Bus

Women are hard to draw. That's why I spend most of my time drawing hideous aberrations. But I was dewdlin' on this and I said to myself, "That kind of looks like a girl!" and I struggled to make it so:

The pose looks uncomfortably familiar and her left arm has all sorts of problems (in addition to all the other horrendous issues. But she's cool! Reminds me of Molly from Gibson's Neuromancer. I aim to get back in there and fix her up and paint her! That would be nice. But not now because I have to go to work.

Oh, and happy birthday, Mom.
