Partial Success: Summer Goals Recap Week the Sixth (6th), Father's Day

It's Father's Day here in the USA, shout out to my old man, best dad ever! But he's not here, he and my little sister took off to California for a week and a half. Lucky fiend

So, my goals weren't disastrous this week! I did some 3D.
That's all, failed everywhere else. Ha! But this week maybe I'll do some stuff from those books I swore I'd use.
Always improvement!
I didn't post this week's assignment from class because I'm really not proud of it. I'm a bit embarrassed by it, actually.
But here's some cool stuff:.

I was just practicing my foreshortening. I'm still rereading Eyeshield 21 and there's so much extreme perspective. I take a step back and look at it and I think, "I could do that!" So I'm trying to push myself more.
The blue and red guy holding the sword? His hand? I used reference! I was sitting in church (I was listening! I promise!) and I really needed a hand to make sure it looked right. I tried mine but would have had to break my arm to get it right. So I turned to my dear mother and bent her wrist all funky and drew that. So that's my mom's hand.

I can't find my flash drive!

I can't get into my e-mail because it has 2 step verification and I'm in a cement prison so I can't get the text. And I have some cool stuff at school I wanna post but I CANT GET IT OFF THE COMPUTER.

So you get this:

Hideous textures

But whaddaya gonna do.
The guy was generating UV's in THE MOST complicated way I have ever seen. Maya 2015 has proven (so far) to be fairly good at pulling them out, so I just did planar stuff and painted the chunks in Photoshop:

I'd like to go over it and paint some more, but I have to go to work. So it's all I got!

I had some landscape studies from class today I'm proud of, but I can't find my flashdrive so they're still at school.

I'm tired and kinda cranky

I've been fighting with Maya all afternoon...
It's awful trying to remember this stuff, really slow going. Here's what I have so far today, the normals are kinda wonky but I think I'm going to do some textures for it tomorrow:

Yeah, people display their 3D models and they look awesome but I don't know how to do that yet, so go away (but come back tomorrow because I might have figured it out!). Now I'm looking at that sword and hating it for how symmetrical it is. OH WELL. It's a first attempt.

A Change of Plans: Summer Goals Recap Week the Fifth (5th)

I failed again. I didn't really do anything related to my Summer Goals.
BUT!
I have some plans to mix things up. I redownloaded Maya this week. I know I did this last year (probably about the same time of year, actually) but I really need to get my 3D muscles working again. So I drew this sword today:

I'm going to put it together in Maya and model it. Since I'm not getting any 3D done at school, I'm taking it into my own hands! So 3D will take the place of weekly watercolor. That's the change to my summer goals. I'll just have to work hard to incorporate more of those books into my work week.

This next one has my favorite thing: That guy at the bottom is SO FUN! Blam blam blam!

1 hour later

Trying to figure it all out. Looking at it now I can see where I need to fix values.
But I need to clean the house.

Final "Temptation" project

So the theme for the week was "Temptation" and I was freaking out because I was liking where my sketch was going but completely unable to make it fit the theme. My friend Thomas suggested that my temptation was "Always wanting to draw a big muscular warrior guy" and that's what I'm going with.

BONUS: I drew these last night.

It would that I was too scared to push the perspective on the samurai sword. Coward! I'll do better next time. Last night I was reading some Eyeshield 21 as a bedtime story. Yusuke Murata is such a good artist. He's really got no issues with pushing perspective and it looks so cool as a result. I want my own work to be that dramatic.

Looking at the skeleton in the next one reminds me I have to get started on my Gallery of Terror piece for this year. It's gonna be so spooky!

Now I'm going to school to finish my homework assignment. I hope somebody is there and will let me into the lab.

I forgot my blasted assignment!

I left it at school! I have to go back tomorrow and finish it. What a nincompewp.
But I made this today at home, just trying to improve my workflow (gonna try to finish this someday, too!):

I forgot to use a title yesterday

Sometimes I have secrets I don't post. They're just little learning experiences that nobody but me needs to know exist.

This guy has gone through some serious changes.

That big guy? I stole the arm from Zedig. I'm ashamed. But it was for referential purposes.

What I've been working on. Pretty boring and I'm not sure what I wanna do with it. But I'm losing my patience.

BONUS: Finished A Sketchbook

It wasn't an entire one, no. I had about thirty pages left in one of my school sketchbooks from last semester and I figured I wouldn't waste it. This was on the last page and I kinda like how it turned out. I ran into a couple tough spots (the back end of the shotgun and the hand that can't be seen, for example) and I should have found some reference images, but I still like the sketch. A fitting end to the sketchbook! I'm trying to think about how I can turn this concept into this week's theme for class: "Temptation."
Back to work.

A Week of Failure: Summer Goals Recap Week the Fourth (4th)

I, uh, blew it.
Yeah, I didn't do anything related to my summer goals this week. I was working on drawing a million trillion faces using shadow shapes/value rather than line. Uh huh.
Today I drew some things but today was one of those days where drawing doesn't work right. Here's what I did, but it makes me sad.

I did do a cool painting of the Universe this week, though. That was nice.
