Boring Post: Summer Goals

I finished my finals today, so now I'm considering what to do with my Summer. Outside of class. And work. Ha! I don't really have much of a Summer break. But I don't want to fall apart and do nothing for the next few months, I want to be motivated on my own.
So, here are my goals for the Summer:

1. Work through art books
a. How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way (in case you're wondering why on this one, a friend told me that when Jake Wyatt was asked how to get better, he suggested this. I don't know if that's true or juicy urban legend, but I believe it)

2. Write and Tell a Short Story in Pictures

3. Break Out the Watercolors Once a Week

Yeah, that's all. I'm a simple lad. I guess I want to take my education by the horns and stuff. So keep me accountable! Here's something I drew today. Stupid scribble

Almost done with the semester!!!

That's all I gotta say. Got stuff to do! Here. I slept badly last night, finals are nerve-wracking. I've been reading this book and it's actually too scary for me. I don't normally do anything scary but I like stuff with a Science-Fiction slant and I somehow ended up reading Heart-Shaped Box. I fell asleep fine but woke up at 3 (which is, unfortunately, a thing my body does quite frequently as of late) and couldn't go back to sleep. Ha! So I stayed awake for half an hour and read another book until I was so tired I didn't care if the ghosts got me, then I went to bed.

fasdfasd

From Friday.

Sorry I haven't been posting much. Finals, moving out, Dark Souls II, etc. It's been crazy. Here's what I did Friday, and should have more this afternoon.

BONUS: Handy

Last night I listened to Dusty Good's interview with Jim Mahfood from http://audiohenchmen.podbean.com/. It was really cool hearing about process and hard work. Be aware there's some strong language there, if you wanna take a listen. Anyway, this is what I had after I was finished (Courtesy of Pixelovely for their hands):

Welcome Back

It's been busy. I moved out and am sort of semi-homeless at the moment. I'm moving back into my parent's house, but there wasn't room to unpack all my stuff because everyone is at my parent's house for Easter, so I'm staying with some friends, but I don't have my scanner and so I'm not uploading anything.
And I don't use or endorse the use of drugs, but it was April 20th so I drew a marijuana leaf because I thought it was funny. Maybe that's not appropriate.
Too bad.

On Thursday (I think) I went to talk to a professor about some Fall 2014 scheduling conflicts, but I forgot it was comiccon here in Salt Lake City, so everyone was gone. Except for Perry Stewart (I can't find his website!!!). So I asked him instead. We ended up spending quite a bit of time discussing how I was developing as an artist and ways to improve. It was very helpful, some much-needed direction. I've had to examine my artistic habits and make plans to try some new things.

...But it's hard when I'm living semi-homelesssss.

Here's an update on the ol' frog prince. It's coming along, I'm going to try to finish it this afternoon. Scanning it in I realized that it's incredibly unbalanced and I need to add more weight to the right hand side to bring everything back into a state of artistic equilibrium.

This is important here because it's a character against a background with a shadow. It shows depth and stuff. Something I'm gonna keep working on. And yeah, it was April 20th, so there's the obligatory stupid drug reference.

Most of the time, all the people have similar bodies in similar poses with similar faces. It's weird and something else I wanna fix. I want to create new things, not draw the same guy over and over again.

What's up?

Sometimes I wonder how frequently I give blog posts the same title. Ha!

Update on Frog Prince (first mentioned here):

Haha. So yeah, it's turning out exactly the opposite of what I was originally thinking. He's a nice Buddhist frog princeling.

Bus. That guy in the middle was talking so loud I could hear him through my headphones, which basically meant he was screaming at the top of his lungs.

Some dumb zombie stuff. But that guy's feet are so whimsical and ridiculous. Put some shoes on, you'll step on a rusty nail and get lockjaw

Went at it with the brush pen:

 Remember this? I painted it.

Here's some witchy stuff I'm going to be doing with my Hansel & Gretel Final.

Bedtime!

And I've used this weekend to have fun. Back to work tomorrow, I don't wanna get lazy and stop pushing myself...

These are from my train ride yesterday

I just didn't post them because it was too late when I got home.

Headache City!!!

My head hurts, I'm uncomfortable. I think I'm dehydrated. I also think I stayed up last night finishing the fantastic Locke & Key. I work at a library and check out tons of comics and frequently bring stuff back, never really getting into it. this had me hooked right off the bat, and turning pages until it was over. Not for the faint of heart, but the writing and art were both top notch.

Here are thumbs for the final assignment in one of my classes. Our assignment is to do a frog prince. Being a metalhead most my stuff kind of has a metal merch-y feel but I want this frog king guy to be creepy and kinda evil.

Used The Sartorialist as reference. These images were the last ones I needed to complete the reference-based sketchbook for one of my classes. Hooray! Now to work on all the final projects.

I was surprised when I saw this guy on The Sartorialist. He'd been shown wearing the exact same thing in a previous post. A post, coincidentally, that I used as reference before...

Bus people

Some doodles. Since I finished a required sketchbook I thought I'd just kind kick back and relax.
I fell asleep for half an hour while drawing the big guy. I'm worn out.
